TAI CHI
Donna has over 12 years of study in the internal arts of tai chi, hsing i and ba gua under Senior Instructor Joe Miller of Fredericksburg, Virginia. She holds a black belt rank in those arts and is certified by the American Internal Martial Arts Society to teach tai chi.
Donna teaches classes in tai chi and chi gong at the Massad Branch YMCA in Fredericksburg, Virginia, where she has been an instructor since 2007. (See the Contacts page for class times.) She also guides classes for seniors at the Heartfields Assisted Living Center in Fredericksburg, focusing on tai chi-based exercises that can be done while seated.
This fall, Donna demonstrated the benefits of tai chi and chi gong for over 100 caregivers and health professionals working with the elderly at the Rappahannock Area Partners in Aging Ninth Annual Caregivers Symposium. She frequently gives demonstrations of tai chi and chi gong for local groups such as the Central Virginia Chapter of the National Multple Sclerosis Society and the Chinese community celebration of the Year of the Tiger.
CHI GONG
These energy-building exercises are a vital part of Donna's tai chi classes. She incorporates traditional Five Element and Four Post exercises, as well as more extensive 18 Movement Chi Gong into her classes on a regular basis.
A new weekly class at the Massad Branch YMCA focuses exclusively on chi gong for people of all ability levels. Check the Contacts page for class times.
Donna's specially-adapted chi gong exercises for those with low mobility are available on CD. Check the Contacts page for information.
ISSHINRYU KARATE
After over 17 years of study in this traditional Okinawan martial art, Donna holds the rank of third-degree black belt under Sensei Ray Blazer of Caroline County, Virginia. She serves as a Senior Instructor in the Caroline Karate Club as part of the Caroline County Parks and Recreation Department program. She has been teaching in that program for more than 13 years, and now instructs intermediate and advanced students in kata, kumite, self-defense and weapons.
As part of the CKC program, Donna also helps design and teach separate self-defense seminars for women.
HOLISTIC HEALTH
As every martial artist knows, mind, body and spirit are intricately related. True health depends on treating the person as a whole, not as a conglomeration of body parts or symptoms. Even more, health begins with a concept of wellness, rather than a paradigm of disease. A few simple lifestyle changes can make a greater difference in health than a drugstore full of drugs. Eat well, sleep well, supplement where necessary and moderate the negative influences of our modern environment to make a huge impact on your own health.
You don't have to settle for an average level of health and wellness when you can build a superior body with the help of a unique system of health arts based on the best of both East and West. The Daoist DaVinci Health Enhancement System provides the benefits of internal arts training in relaxing, table-based coaching sessions.
